Independent Living Communities

Independent senior living communities (also known as retirement communities, senior living communities or independent retirement communities) are housing designed for seniors 55 and older. Independent living communities offer the best senior housing option to active adults who are looking for a built-in community but want to retain their independence.  Independent senior living communities commonly provide apartments, while others offer cottages, condominiums, and single-family homes

The costs may differ substantially based on the facility of your choice. Many seniors choose those independent living facilities that offer a wide range of amenities, such as swimming pools, fitness centers, tennis courts, even golf courses or other clubs and interest groups. Other services offered may include onsite spas, beauty and barber salons, daily meals, and basic housekeeping and laundry services.

Why an independent living community?

  • Maintenance-free Living. One of the most sought-after perks of independent living is freedom from the chores associated with home ownership.
  • Proper Nutrition. One of the biggest concerns as people age is nutrition, including food quality and the ability to consume the right nutrients.
  • Private – Yet Community-Like – Living. An added benefit of independent living is the balance between enjoying privacy yet also being part of an active senior living community.
  • Social Interactions. Each stage of life has unique challenges, and as we age, the ability to make new friends can prove difficult.

Keep in mind that independent living is not the same thing as assisted living. While individuals who choose assisted living may be able to live independently, they often require some assistance with daily activities. Members of independent living communities do not require assistance with tasks such as cooking, bathing or transportation.
